Worcester Celebrates National Health Center Week with Wellness Bags to Help Fight COVID-19

Worcester, MA — Family Health Center of Worcester launched the distribution of 2,000 complimentary health and wellness bags to celebrate National Health Center Week. The Hanover Insurance Group Foundation is the lead sponsor of this initiative. Thirty-two local businesses and non-profits joined this effort to distribute important health information, resources, and COVID-19 prevention supplies to 2,000 households across Worcester.

“The Hanover Insurance Group Foundation is proud to partner with Family Health Center and the community to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by providing residents with critical supplies and education,” said Kimberly Salmon, The Hanover’s Assistant Vice President of Community Relations. “This is a great way to celebrate the work of health centers in our community.”

“The safety of our patients, staff, and the community at large is our first concern,” said Louis Brady, President/CEO of Family Health Center of Worcester. “We are grateful to all of our partners and the volunteers from the United Way of Central Massachusetts for helping us put together these health and wellness resources.”

If this were any other year, Family Health Center of Worcester would be hosting the annual Neighborhood Health Fair and Festival to celebrate National Health Center Week. But as the health center fights the COVID-19 epidemic in Worcester, it is impossible to gather for the well-loved Health Fair that typically attracts over 3,500 residents.

The bag distribution at Family Health Center continues through August 21, 2020.

The health and wellness bags include multilingual brochures and flyers with health information from dozens of community-based agencies providing support to families at this time, giveaways, and COVID-19 prevention supplies including face masks, hand sanitizer, and touchless door openers to help keep residents healthy during the pandemic.
